Macbride Nature Challenge bioblitz event is tomorrow! Hope to see you there.

Hi friends,
Last fall we reintroduced fire to a portion of the flood plain near Falcon Shelter for the first time in generations in an effort to stimulate the dormant species to come back up. Now it is time to see what we stimulated.

We suspect the first 3 years since the fire disturbance to see a lot of invasive species including nonnatives, but we also hope to get an idea of what ecosystem also exists there from the historical ecosystem.

Getting information on what species exists there will help guide us on what our restoration efforts and management will look. Entering species you come across anywhere on MNRA helps with understanding the land, however this particular area we will be seeing species that have not been seen in our lifetime or many generations due to the changes in habitat since settlement.

Saturday will be the big push to get an idea of what is in the area burned but feel free to continue to explore and document the area, or anywhere on MNRA beyond this event. We do use the data.

Thank you everyone for all of your hard work with this project!

Thank you everyone that participated in the MNC! We were able to collect over 300 observations all of which we will use to better understand our ecosystem and better guide us in land management.
Our Macbride Nature Recreation Area project continues every day. Be sure to become a member of it to get resources, updates, and invites to help our research and documentation that is occurring at MNRA.
Warm regards,
Tamra Elliott, MNRA Land Manager
