Diario del proyecto City Nature Challenge 2024: Allegheny and Shenandoah Mountains

Good morning,

I’ve tagged you in this post because you are a top identifier in the Allegheny and Shenandoah Mountains area. We’re hoping you’ll participate in this year’s City Nature Challenge by helping go through the "Needs ID" observations for the Allegheny and Shenandoah Mountains project by May 5. Over 70% of our observations still need an ID! It is top iNat identifiers like you that will help increase our number of species recorded and ensure that we have high-quality data.

Have observations that you haven't uploaded? It's not too late! You can still post observations made within the April 26-29 timeframe and have them count toward the challenge until May 5.

Good morning! If you're in the Bath County area, we need your help making wildlife observations with iNat. The Nature Challenge is happening now through Monday and we are looking for 15 more people to make observations--particularly in the Bath County area where there haven't been any observations made this weekend, yet.

The Allegheny and Shenandoah Mountain Region Challenge (Alleghany, Augusta, Bath, Buena Vista, Covington, Highland, Lexington, Rockbridge, Staunton, Waynesboro) is in the running to top last years wildlife observations in Virginia, but we need your help. I'm tagging you in this post because you've observations in the area.

Can you help us get your friends involved? We need 50 more people to make observations today and tomorrow.

Help us find more wildlife than last year's Nature Challenge! All iNat observations made in Alleghany, Augusta, Bath, Buena Vista, Covington, Highland, Lexington, Rockbridge, Staunton, Waynesboro counties will automatically count in the Challenge.

We're almost half-way through the challenge and observations are rolling in. Here's how many MORE we need to reach our goal. Will you spread the word and help us?
• 25% of our goal accomplished: MORE wildlife observations needed
• 54% of our goal accomplished: MORE species needed
• 46% of our goal accomplished: MORE people making observations needed

I hope you'll get outside this evening through Monday and snap photos in iNat of that ant on the sidewalk (it counts!) or that dandelion in your yard (it counts!) or the fly on your vehicle (it counts!). The more wild plants and animals you observe, the better!

Help us find as many species as we can! The annual City Nature Challenge has started and we need your help. Between Friday, April 26 and Monday, April 29, we need you to make as many iNat wildlife observations as possible. All iNaturalist observations from Alleghany, Augusta, Bath, Buena Vista, Covington, Highland, Lexington, Rockbridge, Staunton, Waynesboro City/Counties will automatically be counted towards the Challenge.

I’ve tagged you in this post because you've made observations in the Lexington area and it's iNat observers like you who will push us ahead in number of of wildlife observations and species recorded in Virginia.

I encourage you to make observations in your backyard, your favorite nature preserve, park, or anywhere in the areas listed above!

The City Nature Challenge is an international effort for people to find and document what lives in communities across the globe. There are over 650 locations participating this year so it will be great to see what everyone finds.
